According to Automotive News, due to a strike at General Motors' factory in Thailand, the company's parts supplier, American Axle Manufacturing, has also been affected. The production cuts caused by the strike could lead to a loss of $15 million for the latter. American Axle supplies front and rear axles and drive shafts to General Motors' local factory from its facility in Rayong, Thailand, for the production of mid-sized trucks. In a recent document, American Axle stated that it expects to incur a loss of $15 million in the first quarter of this year due to the impact of the strike at General Motors' Rayong factory.
According to Automotive News, due to a strike at General Motors' factory in Thailand, the company's parts supplier, American Axle Manufacturing, has also been affected, with production cuts caused by the strike potentially leading to a loss of $15 million for the latter.
American Axle supplies front and rear axles and drive shafts to General Motors' local factories through its plant located in Rayong, Thailand, for the production of mid-sized trucks. American Axle recently stated in a document that it expects to incur a loss of $15 million in the first quarter of this year due to the impact of the strike at General Motors' Rayong plant.
On February 8, about 2,000 employees at the General Motors Rayong plant went on strike because the factory added a new shift on Saturday without providing overtime pay. According to local Thai media reports on March 14, 3,000 workers remained on the production line, but the plant's daily vehicle production dropped from 600 to 100.
Laurent Berthet, Director of Southeast Asia Media for General Motors, stated that the plant was closed for three days due to the strike. Currently, "the vast majority" of employees have returned to the factory, which is now operating with two shifts. Only an unspecified number of employees are still on strike, but this has not affected production.
